Faced with a community already unhappy with one imposing base station (not deployed by TCI), the challenge was set to design a site in keeping with the surroundings. With only the confines of a Council reserve to build the site, TCI designed the site so that the cabin formed part of the existing amenities block, and erected a ‘palm tree’ monopole with panel antennas in the ‘fronds’ and a microwave dish concealed behind a bunch of ‘dates’.

Site design was difficult due to very poor foundation conditions and the close proximity of the pole to the building. A cast in-situ pier footing was introduced to ensure no load would be transferred onto the existing buildings foundations.

Following significant community and local government liaison, construction was initiated and completed with one week (which included the rigging of antennas).
